Daily Challenge

Keep muscle tension in check by taking 3 stand-and-stretch breaks today.

How to do it:
Make time today to stand up and stretch! Lace your fingers together, reach your arms toward the ceiling as though you're trying to touch it, and hold for at least six seconds. Aim to do this at least two more times today. If you think you might forget, set reminders on your phone or your computer, or leave yourself a sticky note.

Why it matters:
Sitting down may not seem like a very physically demanding activity, but if you're working at a desk or computer for hours at a time, this can lead to tense, tight muscles. Then there's the poor posture many of us have while watching TV or using a laptop or tablet, which can lead to neck, shoulder, and back pain. Regular stretching releases this muscle tension and helps maintain normal muscle length. It also increases flexibility and circulation, sending more oxygen-rich blood throughout your body.

Let us know if you tried it.

Fun Fact:
Many members of the Chicago Bulls basketball team have taken ballet to enhance their athletic performance.
