Daily Challenge

The next time you eat a fruit or vegetable, beans, or grains today, quiz yourself on how it grows.

How to do it:
The next time you eat fruits, vegetables, nuts, beans, or grains today, ask yourself about how it grows. Does it grow on a tree, bush, or vine? Does it grow on or under the ground? If you don't know, plan to look up the answer.

Why it matters:
When we buy fruits, vegetables, nuts, beans, and grains, we usually see them in a store, after they've been harvested and/or processed. Knowing how our food grows and what it looks like in its whole, natural state gets us much more connected to what we put into our bodies. Having a connection to our food translates into a greater appreciation for nature and what it gives us, and can make us more mindful while we are eating.

Let us know what you learned.
Fun Fact:
Sea beans, popular in European and Asian cuisines, don't come from the ocean. Sea bean plants grow near salt marshes and in coastal regions.
