Today is...
National Chocolate Caramel Day!
The union of chocolate and caramel is arguably one of the greatest flavor combinations ever conceived by man. These two ingredients appear in countless candy bars, ice cream flavors, confections, and desserts.
Did you know that Milton Hershey began his career at a caramel company? In the late 1800s he began experimenting with ways to improve caramel candy and found some German-built machines for manufacturing chocolate. His attention would eventually shift completely to chocolate, but Hershey’s first product was a chocolate-covered caramel!
To celebrate National Chocolate Caramel Day, enjoy some of your favorite goodies made with chocolate and caramel. Enjoy!

Today is...
Oatmeal Cookie Day!
Oatmeal cookies have been around since the late 1800s. They originated in England, and evolved from the savory oatcake. In the Middle Ages, soldiers carried oatcakes with them in case they needed a quick boost of energy during battle. Although our modern-day version is much sweeter, oatcakes and oatmeal cookies share many of the same ingredients including spices, nuts, and raisins.
Oats are an excellent source of iron and fiber, which explains why oatmeal cookies are the healthiest type of cookie! Make a batch today to celebrate Oatmeal Cookie Day!

Today is...
St. Patrick's Day!
Send a free St. Patrick’s eCard to friends and family in honor of the occasion! People have been celebrating the Feast Day of Saint Patrick for over a thousand years. Saint Patrick was born and raised in Roman Britain during the fifth century. At the age of sixteen he was captured and sold as a slave to an Irish sheep farmer, but eventually managed to escape. He spent several years in a monastery before returning to Ireland as a Christian missionary. Today he is hailed as the patron saint and national apostle of Ireland.
Over the years St. Patrick’s Day has evolved from a religious observance to a worldwide celebration of Irish culture. In Ireland, men wear shamrocks on their jackets and caps, and women wear green ribbons in their hair. In the United States, cities like Boston, Philadelphia, and Savannah host huge St. Patrick’s Day parades, and Chicago dyes its river bright green!
Whether you have Irish ancestors or just love a good limerick, wear something green or attend a parade to celebrate this famous Irish holiday!

Today is...
Pi Day!
This annual celebration is always on March 14th and commemorates the mathematical constant of Pi (π). It is celebrated on 3/14, as it signifies the three most significant digits of Pi in the decimal form – 3, 1, and 4.
Pi Day is celebrated in many ways, including eating pie, throwing pies, and discussing the significance of the number. Schools may hold competitions to see which students can recite Pi to the highest number of decimal places.
Fun fact – MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) has often mailed its application decision letters to prospective college students for delivery on Pi Day!  Starting in 2012, MIT has posted its application decisions on a private website on Pi Day, exactly at 6:28 pm. They have deemed this “Tau Time”, in honor of the rival numbers Pi and Tau.
Pi has been mathematically calculated to over one trillion digits beyond its decimal point! Pi’s infinite nature makes it a fun concept to celebrate and study. Spend today learning about its origins or trying to memorize as much of it as you can.

Today is...
Ear Muffs Day!

A fifteen-year-old boy from Maine named Chester Greenwood invented ear muffs in 1873. According to one legend, Chester liked to go skating at a nearby pond but couldn’t find a way to keep his ears warm. Everything he tried was either too bulky or too itchy, so he came up with the “Greenwood Champion Ear Protectors.” In 1877 Chester patented his invention and opened a successful factory. People have been wearing ear muffs ever since.
While you may or may not need your ear muffs in March, everyone can celebrate this iconic winter accessory. Sport a pair today in honor of Ear Muffs Day!

Today is...
Girl Scout Day!
On this day in 1912, Juliette "Daisy" Gordon Low assembled a group of eighteen girls from Savannah, Georgia for the first ever Girl Scout meeting. Low believed that all girls should have the opportunity to develop physically, mentally, and spiritually. She organized service projects, outdoor adventures, and enrichment programs to get girls out of the house and into the community.
Today, over 3.2 million girls and adults are active Girl Scout members, and over 50 million women are Girl Scout alumnae. According to the mission statement of the organization, Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.
In honor of Girl Scout Day, take a moment to recognize and celebrate all that Girl Scouts of the USA has done for local communities across the country!

Today is...
Oatmeal Nut Waffles Day!
Waffles became a popular baked treat during the Middle Ages. The original recipe called for just flour and water, so vendors sold waffles on the streets during the religious fasting season. Bakers branded the waffles with coats of arms, religious symbols, and the traditional honeycomb pattern we are accustomed to today. Eventually people began adding other ingredients like eggs, butter, milk, and honey.
Looking for a healthier version of this breakfast classic? Make a delicious batch of oatmeal nut waffles with nutritious whole grain oats and chopped pecans mixed right into the batter. Top your oatmeal waffles with peanut butter and syrup, or pair with yogurt and honey for a complete breakfast. Happy Oatmeal Nut Waffles Day!
