Today is Thursday April 1, 2010

Today is:

April Fool's Day

Did you know that the government has banned the consumption of coffee in the United States because of its addictive qualities? Just kidding...April Fool's! Today is the official day for practical jokes, pranks, and tricks.

April Fool's Day has been celebrated for hundreds of years. No one really knows how it all began, but a popular theory relates back to when France changed its calendar in the 1500s so that the New Year would begin in January to match the Roman calendar instead of in the spring. Many people living in rural communities continued to celebrate the New Year in April and thus became known to others as "April Fool's." Since then, practical jokes and tricks have been played on this silly day around the world. Back on April 1st, 1957, the BBC ran a very successful spoof documentary explaining to viewers how spaghetti is grown on spaghetti trees. Many people actually believed it!

To celebrate today, play a trick on someone you know. But they might do the same to you, so hope you aren't too gullible!

Today is also National Sourdough Bread Day

April is National Grilled Cheese Month

1621 - The Plymouth, Massachusetts, colonists created the first treaty with Native Americans.

Quote of the Day:
"Worry is a thin stream of fear trickling through the mind. If encouraged, it cuts a channel into which all other thoughts are drained."
