Today is Sunday April 4, 2010

Today is:

Easter

Easter is the religious celebration of the resurrection of Jesus. Christians celebrate this holiday by attending church services, having festive family meals, Easter egg hunts, and giving gifts to family and friends.

The Easter Bunny became a symbol for the Easter holiday during the 1600's in Germany. According to tradition, if children were well behaved, the Easter Bunny would lay brightly colored eggs in their Easter baskets. This tradition carried over to America by German settlers in the Pennsylvania Dutch country during he 1700's. Various other traditions soon emerged in America and in other parts of world in celebration of Easter.

In 1953, the first Marshmallow Peep took over 27 hours to create. Today it takes just six minutes! Did you know that Americans eat more candy at Easter than any other holiday besides Halloween? Yikes! Between peeps, jelly beans, and egg-shaped chocolates, it's no wonder why so many people hop around like the Easter Bunny because of all of the sugar!

Enjoy this festive celebration with your friends and family. Decorate an Easter egg or go on an Easter egg hunt, it will make you feel like a kid again! Happy Easter!
